Expanding Educational Opportunities with Florida Virtual School

Florida Virtual School (FLVS) is making waves in the education sector by introducing 13 new online courses for the 2025–26 school year. These courses are designed to enhance flexible learning opportunities and expand access to high-quality instruction across the state. As Florida continues to lead the nation in educational choice, FLVS remains a key player in providing families with options that meet their unique needs.

The introduction of these courses comes at a time when more than half of K-12 students in Florida are now enrolled in school choice programs. This shift underscores the growing demand for personalized learning experiences that cater to individual interests and academic goals. The new courses reflect a diverse range of subjects, including electives, world languages, and accelerated learning opportunities, allowing students to explore their passions before entering college or the workforce.

New Courses Designed to Inspire and Prepare Students

At the forefront of this year’s course launch is a dynamic K-5 Music Suite, which is aimed at inspiring creativity in young learners. This program offers a progressive exploration of music and the arts, helping students develop foundational skills in singing, listening, and movement. As they progress through the grades, students will engage in activities that foster imaginative capabilities, musical literacy, and cultural exploration.

For high school students, FLVS is also introducing a robust lineup of courses designed to prepare them for the future. These include two Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs that provide industry-focused classes, creating accessible pathways for gaining skills and certifications needed for college and career success. One of the courses, Business Ownership, is part of the Entrepreneurship Program of Study and empowers students to develop a comprehensive business plan, master financial management, and create effective marketing strategies.

Another notable offering is Machine Learning and Applications, which explores the intersection of artificial intelligence and machine learning. Students will use Python to design and train models, examine the complexities of neural networks, and explore career paths in this rapidly evolving field.

FLVS also offers Advanced Placement (AP) courses, such as AP Spanish Language & Culture, which promotes fluency and cultural understanding through thematic units. Additionally, AP Physics 1 and AP Psychology provide students with a deeper understanding of scientific principles and human behavior.

Electives and World Languages Expand Student Options

In addition to the core courses, FLVS has introduced several elective courses that allow students to explore their creative sides. Creative Writing 1, for example, encourages students to delve into poetry, memoirs, and screenwriting while developing their unique voice. Another elective, French 4 Honors, deepens students’ mastery of grammar, vocabulary, and cultural nuance through authentic materials and interactive discussions.

These courses are available through FLVS Flex, which allows families to incorporate one or more individual online courses into their education plan. FLVS Flex offers a self-paced, customizable learning experience that is ideal for homeschool families and students who want to accelerate, catch up, or supplement their traditional schooling.

For families seeking a comprehensive, full-time online public school experience, FLVS Full Time is now open for enrollment through July 18. This program operates on a traditional 180-day school calendar and offers a structured yet flexible learning environment with certified teachers, live lessons, and regular interactions with classmates. Students enrolled in FLVS Full Time receive a full course load and can participate in clubs, activities, and graduation ceremonies, just like in a traditional school setting.
